About Our Team
Emergency services at Mission Hospital include clinical pharmacist coverage in the emergency department 7 days a week from 9:00am until 11:00pm. Anytime during these hours there are always 1-3 clinical pharmacists staffing within the department. Pharmacy services include (but are not limited to) prospective order review (computerized physician order entry – CPOE), antimicrobial culture follow-up, drug information, response to code situations (cardiac arrests, STEMIs, strokes, traumas, etc), patient education, protocol development, and inter-departmental committee participation. A collaborative practice agreement with emergency medicine physicians enables designated clinical pharmacists in the emergency department at Mission to exercise limited prescriptive privileges under The Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) Act in North Carolina (21 NCAC 46.3101). There are also nine certified pharmacy technicians employed in the emergency department (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) to obtain patient medication histories used in the medication reconciliation process.
