• Process and quality improvement
• Transitions of care
Patient Care Philosophy: Most of our patients have multiple medical problems and see several doctors. At some point in their lives, many complicated patients simply decompensate as one or more of their illnesses worsen or they simply become ill. These are not patients who can get better and thrive on their own at home. But in the hospital, in addition to fixing the immediate problem, our job is to attempt to re-integrate their medical care and educate them about their condition or problems. It is also our role to help them navigate the health care system such that they have effective and timely follow-up with their outpatient doctors.

Perspectives on the Region: western North Carolina is a unique part of the country. Moreover, the access patients are afforded to excellent generalist and specialist care alike is particularly unusual in this relatively small region. I am proud to be part of Asheville Hospitalist Group - part of the foundation of medical excellence in our area.
Personal Background: A native of Alabama, Dr. Watford has one child and enjoys outdoor activities, mountain biking, snowboarding, family activities as well as local food.
