"I want my daughter to be proud of me"

Amber Miller knew from a young age that she wanted to be a nurse, and she’s made sacrifices to put that dream into action. Committed to becoming the best nurse she could be, Amber made the difficult decision to return to school to pursue her BSN when her daughter, Lily, was only three months old.

Drawn back to Mission Health by the memory of the celebration of nursing from her very first contact with those nursing leaders, Sheila herself is now a nursing unit supervisor in Mission’s Children’s Hospital. It’s the little things, like the simple pleasure of the “family dinners” her night nurse colleagues share together in the middle of their shift.

Adam King’s lifelong relationship with Mission Health began with his birth at Mission Hospital a few decades ago. Because he knew from an early age that he wanted to be a nurse, he sought opportunities to build and strengthen a connection with the system’s flagship hospital in Asheville, becoming a Junior Volunteer at age 14. Now a nurse supervisor, Adam has become an influential voice for nursing at Mission Health, and is building on his proven ability to create connections, in an innovative new position.

After receiving her CNA in high school, Brandi started as a pharmacy technician at Mission Hospital and then transferred into her current role, where she finds herself an integral part of the nursing team. After some time away from school to start a family, Brandi will return to nursing school. Meanwhile, her work with Mission Health is opening up a world of possibilities to grow in her bedside practice.

In one word, Gina would describe herself as positive. She prefers sweet over salty, Modern Family over Big Bang Theory and coffee over tea. You'll definitely find coffee and creamer in her pantry. One thing her parents always told her-and they were right-is, "You can do anything...if you work HARD!" If Gina was a character in a movie, she would be played by Emma Stone.

A change of scenery

Greg Demonet, ADN, RN

Becoming a nurse wasn’t in Greg’s plans, but his knack of caring for others revealed itself when he got his EMT certification to help care for people at the wilderness center. After nearly twenty years with the wilderness center, he decided it was time for a mid-life change. Now a nurse at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital, Greg finds joy in guiding people on a journey of health and healing.

Achieving the best outcomes for her patients drives Jeanie forward. Being on the leading edge of driving quality patient care keeps her at Mission. Melina Arrowood spent extended time with her dad during his stay at Mission Hospital. She was drawn to the skillfulness of the nurses at his bedside, and their compassion in helping him and the family through a difficult time. When she went home with her father, she knew she would return to Mission Hospital one day, and that she would be the one delivering exceptional care.
