Geriatrics is the practice of medicine for older adults (persons 65 years old and older as defined by Medicare). Older adults have a unique set of needs due to the normal changes in aging that need to be addressed during any hospitalization and in the outpatient healthcare arena. Mission Hospital addresses these needs through geriatric education and training of Mission healthcare professionals, care plans and orders specifically designed for older adults, direct care from geriatricians and nurse practitioners and attention to transitional issues for care in the community or other levels of care. Our objective is for the older adult patient to have the best experience possible under our care with the optimum results.
