At Asheville Cardiology Associates, our staff is comprised of 39 cardiologists, including three pediatric cardiologists, and a support staff of over 200 highly skilled individuals. The practice also has 14 advanced practitioners who offer comprehensive, expedient attention.
Asheville Cardiology Associates' physicians participate as board members of the American Society of Echocardiography, and are also members of numerous state and national committees of the American College of Cardiology. Our cardiologists are committed to continuously advancing their skills through educational courses, symposiums and research.
The Asheville office is located near the intersection of I-40 and Highway 25 South (click for Google Map), allowing convenient access from the entire region of western North Carolina and South Carolina. The hallmarks of our practice are clinical excellence, our compassionate environment, and dedication to decrease the incident of heart disease and improving treatment processes for all patients by being in the national forefront of cardiology research.
For decades, we have been practicing medicine based to achieve the best results for the patient - supported by research. For the patient, that means better results, fewer complications, and getting to go home sooner.
The cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons on Mission's medical staff are leaders in our commitment to quality. They work closely together to design the plan of treatment and care that is best for each individual patient. Many are internationally recognized; several have taught their surgical techniques to physicians who come here from around the nation and from Europe to learn. Many are involved in ongoing research and publication in medical journals. All take part in Mission's ongoing commitment to providing high quality care.
Of course, there's more to quality than excellent medical results. We place great emphasis on how we treat our patients and families during their stay, offering reassurance and encouragement along with quality nursing care. As a result, our heart units achieve some of the highest rankings for patient satisfaction at Mission Hospital.
Quality from Quantity
The best way to predict quality in health care is also one of the easiest: Ask the hospital and physician how many of "your" procedures they perform every year. The more, the better. Over and over, studies confirm that - in medical terms - volume correlates directly with outcomes. The large number of heart procedures and surgeries we perform gives us expertise and proficiency that translates to better outcomes for you.
Experience and Reputation - Proven Success
Among our center's numerous awards, Thomas Reuters has named Mission Health a Top 100 Heart Hospital eight times since 2000, and one of the top 15 health systems in 2014 and 2015. These awards are based wholly on scientific, unbiased evidence of patient treatment success.
In the first four years (2006-2009) of the CMS Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration Project, Mission Health placed in the top 20% of hospitals for treatment of acute myocardial infarction and exceeded median level scores in coronary artery bypass graft and heart failure treatment.
Over the past 10 years our physicians have performed in excess of 50,000 coronary angiograms as well as more than 20,000 cardiac and thoracic surgeries since the program was founded over 30 years ago. This breadth of experience, has led to outstanding survival rates for our 18,000 annual heart patients, soaring beyond the national average. Our post-treatment readmission rates rank far below the national average - meaning our patients have a better chance of staying well.
Other Accreditations and Awards include:
- Chest Pain Center Accreditation by the Society of Chest Pain Centers
- Society of Thoracic Surgeons 3-Star Rating (highest recognition) for all four patient care categories
- Regional hub for patients experiencing acute myocardial infarction
- Door-to-balloon times for STEMI patients - among the best in the nation
- Heart Path Cardiac Rehabilitation: AACVPR certification
- Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care (BCBS of NC): 2009
- American College of Cardiology Foundation's Gold Performance Achievement Award in 2009
